Drift Boss

Drift Boss Coins, Boosters and Cars: What Is Worth Buying?

Published · 2 min read

Drift Boss has one button, but it also has a little economy. Every run you pick up coins, and between runs there are two places to spend them: the garage and the booster screen. Here is how to get the most out of them.

Where coins come from

Coins sit on the road. Drive over one and it is yours, and the count carries over between runs. Longer runs mean more coins, simply because you see more road. The menu also offers a free gift from time to time, so it is worth a glance before you start. Your total is saved in the browser, so a coin earned today is still there tomorrow on the same device.

Should you chase coins?

Mostly no. Coins are placed along the road, and many of them sit on the line you would drive anyway. Some sit close to the edge on a tight corner. Swerving for those is how runs end. The best coin strategy is to drive well: a run twice as long collects about twice as many coins without any risk.

Boosters: bought before a run

After a run ends, you get a screen offering boosters for the next one. They only last for that run, so think of them as a one-time purchase.

  • Double Score — the cheapest. Everything you score in the run counts twice. Useful if you are chasing a number on the leaderboard in your head, less useful if you just want to get better.
  • Car Insurance — saves you from one fall. This is the one that changes results, because it lets you survive a single mistake. Buy it when you are already close to your best score and want to push past it.
  • Coin Rush — the dearest. It adds extra coins to the run. It pays off only if you are going to last a long time; on a short run you may get less back than you spent.

The garage: new cars

The garage sells cars for coins. They look different — colours, shapes, a few silly ones — but they all drive the same, at the same speed and with the same slide. That is good news: you never need to buy a car to do better. Buy the ones you like the look of once you have spare coins.

A simple plan

  1. First few sessions: spend nothing. Learn the timing and let the coins pile up.
  2. Once your runs are consistent: buy Car Insurance before the runs where you feel sharp.
  3. When coins are plentiful: pick up a car you like. It is a reward, not an upgrade.
  4. Coin Rush: only on the runs you expect to be long, and only if you want more cars.

What coins cannot buy

Nothing in the shop makes the car handle better or the road easier. Your score comes from the timing of your presses and releases and nothing else. That is what makes Drift Boss fair: the player with the best timing wins, not the one with the most coins.
